Around 40 Victorian car wash operators and suppliers attended the end-of-year State Meeting held at the Emerald Hotel in South Melbourne on Tuesday, 29 November 2022. ACWA takes this opportunity to thank those who came from far and wide to participate.
The Festive Season always provides an opportunity to gather and talk all things car wash. However, the Victorian Meeting offered a marvellous opportunity to present the Australian Car Wash Industry Hall of Fame trophies and certificates to David Moyns and Tony Stephens, who were inducted into the Australian Car Wash Hall of Fame at Car Wash Show Australia 2022.
It goes without saying that both men are recognised as outstanding industry leaders and innovators, and it was a privilege to be there as they provided their thoughts on the car wash scene and their remarkable industry journey.
Congratulations, Hall of Fame Inductee Tony Stephens
L-R: ACWA Member Jon Roberts congratulates Hall of Fame Inductee, Tony Stephens
Congratulations to Tony Stephens, who was awarded his certificate and trophy as an inductee into the Australian Car Wash Industry Hall of Fame at the recent Victorian State Meeting.
Tony first encountered car washing in North America in the early 90s and “fell in love” with the opportunity the industry presented. Returning to his hometown of Melbourne, Tony set about building a wash at a time when commercial car washing was a rare commodity in Australia. His first foray into an industry that would become his passion for the next three decades was alongside fellow Hall of Famer Richard Davison, opening a wash in Frankston. Soon after, Tony built his signature site, Washbusters, in Moorabbin.
As the industry was in its infancy, Tony regularly visited North America, developing relationships with equipment and product suppliers.
Then, on 17 October 1996, he and his great associate Rob Anson created a significant industry legacy when they founded ACWA, the Australian Car Wash Association. As well as running his own business, Tony has fostered and mentored many other car wash operators over several decades.
In 2021, Tony sold Washbusters, but remains very involved in the industry.
Congratulations, Hall of Fame Inductee David Moyns
