Governments Extend COVID Support for Businesses and Individuals
National COVID-19 Disaster Payment
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced an extension to the Commonwealth Government’s national COVID-19 Disaster Payment.
These payments aim to support workers in every state and territory who lose hours due to a state government lockdown or public health order. Under the expanded Scheme, eligible workers will receive $750 per week if they lose 20 hours or more of work, while those that lose between 8 and less than 20 hours, or a full day of work, will receive a payment of $450 per week.

NSW – Yesterday’s COVID Support Schemes Announcements
The New South Wales and Federal governments have expanded the maximum payments available to businesses through the JobSaver Program, after the state extended its lockdown by another four weeks, until 28 August. JobSaver payments will now be available to employing businesses that have experienced a drop in revenue of 30 per cent or more.
The maximum weekly payment has also been increased, with businesses that maintain their employee headcount can access between $1500 and $100,000 per week. Payments are based on 40 per cent of weekly NSW payroll and.
Importantly, non-employing businesses, such as sole traders, remain eligible for a maximum payment of $1,000 per week.
The NSW state government has also extended the 2021 COVID-19 Business Grant to cover the first three weeks of the current lockdown.

Victoria – Special Relief for Car Wash Operators
As previously announced. In a significant coup for Victorian car wash operators, ACWA has successfully negotiated with the State Government for special relief for several car wash industry sectors. The Scheme is being undertaken as part of the State Government’s Business Costs Assistance Program for the May to June 2021 COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria.
Under the Scheme, businesses in the following industry sub-sectors within the ANZSIC class 9412 are invited to apply under a targeted stream:
- Full-service hand wash businesses
- Manual self-service bay car wash operators
- Automatic car wash businesses not included in ANZSIC Industry Classification Code 4000 and not operated as part of a petrol station.
Successful applicants will also receive any relevant top-up payments provided to businesses during the July lockdown restrictions.
