Dear ACWA Member,
We have received messages requesting an update on restrictions around car washes in Melbourne.
As frustrating as it has been, ACWA has never given up during this traumatic period for Melbourne car wash operators.
This week alone we have been in contact (by email, text or phone), with no fewer than three State Government Ministers and their advisors, as well as 11 senior public servants. We understand we have at least some of these individuals advocating to reopen car washes next week.
ACWA has also been passed feedback from the AI Group. They have advised that their organisation has supported car washing’s cause within the Premier’s Department and Treasury. ( Note: AI Group is deeply entrenched in Victorian COVID Restrictions Policy and operate at senior levels of government influence).
Unfortunately, none of these contacts has been able to commit to anything; however, car washing is not alone in this regard. In an interview just a couple of days ago, the CEO of Kmart reported that he had been unable to ascertain what future restrictions will be in place for their stores in the weeks ahead. Despite, the fact that this Sunday’s announcement is fast approaching, it appears the Government’s restrictions policy is still “evolving”.
ACWA will continue to do all we can to advance the case for reopening car washing, and we will be sure to pass on any information we receive.
At this time it appears that like all of you, we will need to tune into Sunday’s Dan Andrew’s press conference to get the details. We will update all Melbourne car wash operators as soon as we have the information.
